Adidas introduced the Campus in the late 1970s as a low-top basketball shoe, but the shoe was soon embraced by West Coast skateboarders. In the early 1990s, it became the signature shoe of the rap group Beastie Boys, whose style merged West Coast skater culture and East Coast urban hip-hop. Adidas’s development of the Campus Vulc later in the decade transformed the Campus into a dedicated skate shoe.
