Originally intended as a jogging shoe, the Tiger Corsair was a relative of Bill Bowerman’s Nike Cortez and was developed before Bowerman and Knight separated from Onitsuka Tiger to form Nike. The Corsair was also one of the first sporting shoes to transition into an extremely popular leisure shoe. This sneaker is dated after 1977, when Onitsuka Tiger was renamed ASICS, an acronym derived from the Latin phrase anima sana in corpore sano, meaning “a sound soul in a sound body.”
