Tinker Hatfield designed the XX3 in honor of Michael Jordan’s jersey number, 23, and to celebrate the player in a highly personal way. The shape of Jordan’s fingerprint is used for the form of the outsole and the pattern of the whorls is printed on the inside of the tongue. In addition, the toe box features Jordan’s signature and the uppers are hand stitched with his initials. The XX3 was also the first basketball shoe to incorporate Nike’s Considered Design construction system, an environmentally conscious directive to use fewer toxic materials and minimize waste.
