In 2010, high school student Allen Largin won Future Sole, a competition giving high school and college students the opportunity to submit sneaker concepts to Nike designers. Sixteen-year-old Largin’s design for Carmello Anthony, featuring a leather upper and blue stitching, became the Melo 7 Future Sole. Largin even included “Chelle,” the name of Anthony’s late sister, on the sneaker’s insole. The sneaker was worn by the basketball team at Syracuse, Anthony’s alma mater, and by Anthony when the Knicks played the Pistons in Largin’s hometown of Detroit.
