Chicago Bear Walter “Sweetness” Payton, one of football’s greatest running backs, wore KangaROOS in the 1980s. This pair was endorsed by Payton himself and was designed as a serious athletic shoe. KangaROOS sneakers’ unique feature was the Velcro-covered zip pocket on the shoe’s quarters designed to hold a stash of cash or other small necessities. The original company lasted only until the late 1980s, caught between being a lifestyle brand and a performance athletic company.
