Until recently, the most desirable men’s and women’s sneakers have been designed by men specifically for men. Some brands have offered a few of their most iconic shoes in women’s sizes, but few sneakers created for women have had an impact on sneaker culture at large. However, the Puma Creeper, designed by superstar musician Rihanna, suggests that the male-centric landscape of sneaker culture may be changing. Puma first debuted the Creeper in the fall of 2015 as a woman’s shoe, but it was so desirable that it was later offered in men’s sizes as well. The design features the thick platform sole of a traditional “brothel creeper” and a classic Puma upper.
